If that ain't love...

This is the first card Tina Garceau made for me back in 1993. It was constructed using bookbinding methods. The images of my head were from a black and white photograph, photocopied until they became posterized and photostatted on clear film for this project. The reverse of the film was painted with gouache, and the film was wrapped around chipboard.

The Route 23 Fashion Plate

The Route 23 Fashion Plate, originally uploaded by willceau.

I don’t own a car and wind up taking the bus or train when I can’t get where I’m going on foot. I was on SEPTA’s Route 23 Bus heading South when I spied this beauty. Putting it politely, this gal was somewhat grander than petite, but she was dressed to the plus nines and working it like a model. I committed her to memory and drew her in my sketchbook as soon as I got home.

Communist Mutants From Space

Communist Mutants From Space, originally uploaded by willceau.

This was a game for use with a short-lived but interesting gaming system that worked in conjunction with the Atari 2600. It was a cartridge that had a port that patched to an ordinary cassette tape player. The games were on the tape cassette. Push play, and it would take a while to load into the cartridge. When it was finally done, you could play games that were more complex than what was offered on ordinary Atari cartridges. Communist Mutants was a Space Invaders/Phoenix type of game.

I saved the cover of the box, but the game is long gone.

This guy has an excellent video covering it:

Don't Look Back

Don't Look Back, originally uploaded by willceau.

The electric pencil sharpener my Father bought me while I was still in high school died today.

I still like and use wooden pencils, and I want to get another one, but it won't be electric. I'm looking around eBay for a vintage, hand-crank, American-made sharpener. One that's older than me that will outlive me. It doesn't have to have wood grain.

Shriek

Shriek, originally uploaded by willceau.

Another sketchbook scribble from the primordial past that was 1986. This was done in Kohinoor Rapidograph, and I think I had doing a shrieking vampire head in mind, but I don't really recall.

This ended up appearing in Brain Dead which was a punky fanzine circa the early to mid '90s.

My favorite new pen

My favorite new pen, originally uploaded by willceau.

It's a Faber-Castell big brush pen. It has a tapered, brush-like felt tip. I use the thinner ones and Pigma's version, but this feels great doodling with.

I know I should be practicing with my Wacom tablet, but I can't let these pens go!

Depth Charge

Chris Kalnick was kind enough to send me a copy of his Depth Charge comic. It's a beautifully designed mini-comic that fits into an A2 envelope. Supposedly we are in a post print age, but I really got a charge out of holding and reading this elegant little piece.

Check out the web version at CO2 Comics here.

While you're there, have a look around. There's a lot of fun stuff there brought to you by the fellows who started Comico. Go NOW!

Thanks Chris!
