Taking the Plunge!
Michael Flanakin is doing something insane for a good cause this weekend. Mr Flanakin will be participating in Tim's Rivershore Polar Plunge 2011 for the VA Special Olympics.
Michael Flanakin found the image above and chased me down through the internet to do the stand-up and unusual thing of asking permission to use the image. Being that it's a great cause, and he's obviously a nice guy, I agreed immediately. You can see how Michael used the image HERE! It's really neat what he did with some waves he added.

You never know which of your images will catch on and which ones will be overwhelmingly ignored. You may sweat blood over a magnum opus only to crash upon a stone wall of indifference or the little doodle you scratch out will have the public beating down your door. Shall we expect REVENGE when the Jedi RETURN? When they RETURN, are they going to dole out any REVENGE?
How's Luke making out with the Bionic hand? Can he open beers without an opener? Does he still need an oven mit?

This is one of the last of the patches I received from the Star Wars Fan Club. It probably wasn't too much later than this that I let the membership lapse.
Obviously the folks at Lucasfilm were still on the fence about the whole REVENGE versus RETURN thing. I've hung on to this for years figuring I would one day sell it and be living out scenes from Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. It didn't work out that way. I still have it along with a whole lot of other curious clutter. Oh, well.

DUCKWORK No. 6
This was the student newspaper for the Philadelphia College of Art (University of the Arts) back in the early 1980s. It was the precursor to the Comico Comic Company and featured a lot of the same talent including Gerry Giovinco, Bill Cucinotta, and Matt Wagner.
Gerry and Bill have since gone on to create CO2 Comics to which I happily contribute Monkey & Bird.
